eBay selling tips

A small article explaining why you shouldn't sell ebooks for $o.o1 on eBay:

*MYTH 1*

Selling 1p eBooks are ideal for backend sales and website sales.

Total utter rubbish! Do you honestly believe that people who pay 1p for an eBook will bother to read it? Maybe 5% will. But that means you have to sell 100 just to get 5 visitors to your website.

Not only that, but buyers of 1p eBooks are freebie seekers and not willing to loosen the purse strings so to speak. If you’re selling an eBook for just £5 on your website, can you really imagine them whipping out the plastic?

The main reason people buy 1p eBooks are to build feedback points, they’re not going to take a second glance at your eBook.

Instead, consider some SEO work on your site, write articles, submit to search engines, create a free viral eBook, participate in JV’s, participate in giveaway promotions, get reciprocal links, invest in an affiliate programme, sig files on forums, (do not spam) pay per click advertising, create a newsletter and the most important of them all – continue to add more content to your site.

*MYTH 2*

Selling 1p eBooks are ideal for building a strong, positive feedback.

Nope, wrong again! eBayers aren’t stupid. They’ll see you’re selling hundreds of items for 1p and they know the feedback comments you get mean diddly squat.

In addition to that, the majority of buyers aren’t going to bother leaving you feedback for a 1p purchase, especially if it’s of poor quality.

Instead, invest in a few resale rights products that you can sell for £2 - £3 - £4 and make a few CONSISTENT sales every day. If you just make 3 sales from one product per day and have 15 products that you’re selling, then that’s excellent profit potential and you’re building a solid, positive feedback that will be respected by eBay members.

*MYTH 3*

Selling 1p eBooks will make me an eBay power seller and earn me respect from the eBay community.

eBay have set out certain guidelines that entitle you to power seller status.

To qualify, members must:

Uphold the eBay community values, including honesty, timeliness and mutual respect
Average a minimum of £750 in sales per month, for three consecutive months
Achieve an overall Feedback rating of 100, of which 98% or more is positive
Have been an active member for 90 days
Have an account in good financial standing
Not violate any severe policies in a 60-day period
Not violate three or more of any eBay policies in a 60-day period
Maintain a minimum of four average monthly listings for the past three months

Look at the second requirement.

Now, I’m no mathematician and I don’t have a calculator handy but I work that out to mean that you would have to make at least 75000 sales (give or take a 0) every month for the rest of your eBay career to retain your power seller status.

Firstly, selling 75000 items per month is impossible and secondly, can you imagine dealing with all the questions from buyers, re-sending eBooks that were failed by your automation (if you have automation) and leaving feedback comments. Dealing with these many customers would be impossible and your inability to answer e-mails quickly and re-send items could easily lead to negative feedbacks – therefore disqualifying you further from power seller status.

Today we will discuss about gaining traffic from eBay and ebooks. This is such a simple formula to be used as much as you want to gain almost unlimited ammounts of traffic to your chosen site.
The basic idea is that you create your own ebook (or if you are struggling, use PLR content) and then resell it or give it away. The ebook will have links back to your site, and even affiliate links for the chance of a second stream of income.
The great thing about this is if you make it easy for others to resell by providing a ecover and a salespage, you won’t even have to sell yourself. Obviously at first you will have to get your ebook out and about to people by selling it cheap on eBay or even giving it away.
Another idea to go viral with it is to provide branding tools so people can replace your normal link with their affiliate link. Now you may be thinking why do you want to throw away your hard work and profit, but alot of ebook sellers do this. Think about like this; if you had a product and were allowed to put your affiliate link in you would be much more likely to work harder and get it distributed further, because of the chance of the backend income through your affiliate link.
That means the website owner would be receiving traffic they would never of had in the first place. The affiliate partner will always be able to reach people the owner would never of! So in the end your profit is rising!Can you see how powerfull it can be?
By giving people even more of an incentive to sell your ebook or more likely even give it away, you will get loads more traffic than you would as a 1 man army.
The eBay side of things had to be mentioned because of the high volume of traffic going through eBay everyday! Imagine if you had at first, (it would multiply over time) 50 people selling your product! On eBay they have millions of hits PER DAY! Your ebook would be bringing traffic to your site like you never could of imagined.
All that from just writing a short report!

A question I'm often asked is, "How can you automate eBay eBook delivery". I advise you to all automate delivery as it will make the entire auction process that much easier for you and free up more time so you can work on new products and listing them.

The cheapest (well free) way to do this is with the use of Outlook Express and Message Rules. If you don't have Outlook Express, you may want to think about getting it. YES, this automation is that important to freeing up your time when running auctions. Especially those that may be very popular on Ebay. You simply won't have time to "hand deliver" every product.

So, this is how you set up a Message Rule with Outlook Express. Open Outlook Express. Before you can create a message rule, you must first create the email that will be sent off to those that purchase your auction(s).

The first step is to click on the word/link: "Message" within the top, main menu of Outlook Express. Then click the words: "New Message" and write up your "thank you" message including the link to download the product that you sold within your auction listing. DO NOT put an email address inside the: "To" text box. Leave that field BLANK. Once you have your email message adjusted and the way you like it, save it by clicking the "File" > "Save As" links. Then, simply give it a name so you know what it is and select the place on your hard drive you'd like it to be inside of, preferably somewhere you can find it easier when you need it.

And you're ready to move on to the next step. . .

Setting Up Your Message Rule

At the top Menu Link, Find the word/link: "Message", click it. From the menu displayed, select: "Create Rule From Message. .".

A new window will appear giving you multiple check boxes to select from.

Here are the ones you MUST check:

1. Select the Conditions for your rule:

"Where the Subject line contains specific words"

2. Select the Actions for your rule:

"Move it to the specified folder"

and

"Reply with message"

Now, 3. is where you will be setting all these rules up that you have previously selected under numbers 1. and 2. Inside the small text box area of 3., you will see several words that are links. Click on each of them so that these rules can be set up successfully.

For the first rule, you will want to enter the following text in the appropriate text field once you click the linked words: "contains specific words". . .

Item #00000000 Notification of Payment Received

You will need to replace the zero's above with your actual auction listing number which you can find inside your "My Ebay" area.

The next rule you want to adjust is the "specified" text link provided inside 3. text field.

For this, you may want to create a special folder for all incoming Ebay Auction Payments for your listings to better keep track of them and to separate them from other payments you receive from other sources if you are running other types of businesses online. You can name the folder anything you wish and when you click on the above text, you will be given the option to create a "New Folder".

The last and final rule you will want to adjust is the "message" text link provided to you. This is when you will need the email message you made up earlier. Click on the "message" link and a new window will open up ready to accept your settings for the specific email message you created to be sent out. Find it on your hard drive and select it as the message that will be sent out for your auction listing as a payment is received.

Then, hit the "OK" button. And close the Message Rule settings window.

Now, Open up the "Tools" > "Message Rules" > "Mail" and find the Message Rule that you just created. Highlight the name of the message rule, usually it will be "New Mail Rule #1" if you did not give it a specific name earlier.

Then, click on the "Apply Now" button. It will apply the rule immediately to all incoming messages to your inbox. Then simply hit "OK" to exit. And you'll be all set for automation!

You can follow the above process and create as many email message rules as you like if you have different items up for auction.

While this method is free, there are also more expensive alternatives. However, if you don't invest in your business then you won't get very far. Time is your only limited asset and you should free up as much of it as possible. I recommend My Digital Dispatch for eBook automation. It is simple to set up and only requires a one time investment.

eBay Listing Tips to Earn you more Sales!

Here are a few basic eBay listing tips that you can implement into your eBook auction listings to convert more sales and get more hits to your auctions.

Use hard-hitting words including:

Guaranteed
Easy
Fast
New
Low Cost
Effective
Profit
Revolutionary

Of course those aren't the only words you can use. But above all, be creative when it comes to your auction titles. DO NOT LIE! You will have your auction removed and could be banned from doing any future business on Ebay as a result. ALWAYS be truthful with your auctions and products.

What else can you do to make your auction listing pull in prospective buyers?

Use the subtitle option - Sure, it costs you an extra 35 pence, but you have a chance to expand on the description of your auction listing by utilizing this service. It's always a good idea to try it out at least

ONCE and if it doesn't work to attract more attention, then forget it next time.

Use images and actual pictures - This won't cost you a penny and could make the difference between you selling more of your auctions by providing them. The way for you to utilize this is to upload your graphics to your own web space and provide a link to the image(s) you wish to use within your listing information when you provide it. However, it is a wise decision to use the Gallery option which will cost you an extra 15 pence. What this does is provide an image along with your auction listing title to everyone searching through Ebay. It's a proven fact that people who list their auctions with an image get more attention than those that do not.

Offer example views of your earnings - If you have the proof, show it off! Sometimes the best way to prove your eBooks work is by providing such graphical proof to your prospective bidders or buyers. When you create your auction listing, you can use a pre-formatted HTML type page and add your graphics within that. This is how practically everyone lists their auctions now. And it can be as simple as copy and pasting to the appropriate area of the auction listing steps.

Price it accordingly - Don't expect someone searching for information products through Ebay to pay you 95 pounds to get their hands on it. It simply is an odd occurance that doesn't happen. It may rarely occur, but chances of you doing this are slim to none. Knowing how to price your information product auction listings is an important key to getting Ebayers to buy. With that said, also, don't undercut yourself by pricing your products too low either. A happy price range would be anywhere from: £4.95 to £9.95.

Differentiate Yourself From Other Ebay Sellers - Make yourself different. This is key to beating out your competition on Ebay. So, the intelligent thing to do is check out your competitors, take notes, and find that "angle" making your item different from theirs. Even if it deals with the same subject matter, there's always an alternative angle that your competitors probably never thought about you can use to your advantage. The most important thing to remember is to let your prospective bidders or buyers know exactly what it is that YOUR product can do for them that the others either fall short of or cannot.

There's a few auction hints you can implement now, so what are you waiting for! Go and do it and compare your results.

This is what I've been doing over the last few days...

Firstly, I re-downloaded the $10000 Auction eBook as it now has master resale rights. This is a great item to add to my inventory BUT before I list it up on eBay, I'm going to give it to YOU! Secondly, I've done a bit of shopping. In my constant endeavours for new products to sell on eBay, I bought the Ultimate Wealth Package by Mark Warren. I primarily bought it for the eBooks written by Mark Warren (these did not have resale rights) but when I got into the download area there were HUNDREDS of bonus eBooks. I downloaded virtually all of them and then spent the rest of the day sorting out the good ones from the bad. (I found one hidden gem ;)

Thirdly, I've been working on a new site design for http://www.auction-enterprise.com but I can't do it. I have limited web design skills and can't find the right colour combinations or layout. It will be a frustrating few weeks but in the end will be worth it.

That's all I've been doing over the last few days. I still have to get listing all these eBooks but do not have the motivation at the moment.

The creation of the about me page didn't go quite as planned and it took the best part of three hours but I've finally done it. It's by no means a work of art, but it's decent enough to be put up on eBay.

It still requires a bit of tweaking and that is the key to success. If I constantly tweak the page eventually it will be rolling hundreds of dollars on complete auto-pilot. I plan on adapting it every month to ensure it is performing to the best of it's ability.

In my last post I said I'll explain why an about me page is so profitable and I'll do that by analysing my page.

We start at the top with a little description about the power seller challenge I'm currently under going and a little about my other ventures. This creates a sense of trust between me and the reader and the mention of the power seller challenge may encourage them to buy something.

From my about me page I have 4 different methods of auto-pilot income. These include:

Website Sales - If you scroll down you will notice I link to a few of the products I sell on my website. I include a little detail of the product and it's up to the viewer if they want to go and read the sales page. Hopefully these products will generate a few sales from my about me page.

Affiliate Sales - At the very bottom of the page I include a link to the Auction Yen software (also on the right hand side of this blog). If someone buys this product I take a commission of 60% for referring the sale.

Newsletter Subscription - On the page you will notice a link to sign up for my mailing list where I send tips and extra special offers. In exchange for subscribing you also get 7 or 8 FREE eBooks for you to resell. So it's a win win situation for the subscriber and for me. Some of the eBooks given away were written by me and therefore include relevant links. This can result in back end income for me. It has also been said that each subscriber is worth $1 per month as they buy offers I send out or affiliate products I recommend. My list is not yet big enough to give an opinion on the earning potential but it does seem to be quite profitable from what I've seen so far. I use aWeber as my autoresponder as it is the most reliable and even I - with no technical skills- could work out how to set it up. Finally, I indirectly profit from Adsense - I link to my website and this blog and they both contain adsense in fairly prominent postions. That's about it for about me pages. I'm sure I'll learn more as I go along and will post any tips I learn.

Yesterday was a success. I sorted out the wheat from the chaff and now have only quality eBooks to sell, all 127 of them. I may have another session of getting rid of a few eBooks because the eBook market place changes so quickly.

When researching possible selling prices , I stumbled accross a product which consistently sells for £4-5 and on a daily basis. So I bought the product and added it to my collection. I still need to source more products with high selling prices and will be doing that over the next few days.

Once the challenge has started I will reveal my main sources of products so you can grab them all aswell, or you could just buy them from me on eBay ;)

Today's task is to set up an About Me page because this is one of the most vital parts of the challenge. I will reveal why it is so vital later on once I've finished creating it and I'll explain exactly how to set up a profitable about me page. I also have a few other non ebay related things to do, such as adding new messages to my autoresponder so I have a few things to be getting on with. I think I was a bit stupid planning this challenge during the World Cup - too many distractions :(

Today's Task

It's time to knuckle down now and really get working.

This afternoon I will be going through every eBook I currently have on my computer and putting it into an eBay selling folder. I will open each eBook, read bits of it and check it's of high enough quality to be worthwhile selling. I'll then type the name of the eBook into the eBay keyword search and analyse the competition, selling price and whether or not it's selling price has been ruined by the 1p sellers.

I also have to do a bit more research on eBay and find some more decent products to sell.

I'll post back later and let you know how I've done. And don't forget that you can contribute products for me to sell and you take 10% of all sales revenue generated from your eBooks.

So much to do and so little time!

Yes, that statement does sound a little cliche but in this case it's true. There's just two weeks to go until the challenge begins and I just realised how much I have to do. I have to:

1) Find more products to sell and then sort all my eBooks and software into a "Selling Folder" consisting of all products I will be selling on eBay.

2) I have to do a lot of research of about 200 products, typing the product name into eBay and analysing past selling trends and possible sale price...

3) Convert all my private label eBooks into master resale rights. If you don't know what these terms mean then try this eBook... Private Label Rights and Master Resale Rights Explained

4) Write sales letters for all the products which do not have them.

5) Create an about me page. This will be a VITAL part in the challenge and I'll explain why and how you can create one at a later date.

6) I have to upload all the products to my hosting ready for download and set up additional webpages to ensure back end income.

7) Finally, I have to actually list all the items and Turbo Lister won't work!

It's a hard two weeks, but I think, well I hope, the rewards will far outgain the effort and hard work.

The Challenge is in full swing!

Just by adding a signature file on a few forums I frequent has proved to be an effective advertising method. There has been a lot of interest from people wanting to know whether or not I will set up a group plus one very nice person has contributed his entire eBook collection!!!

The gentleman in question, webmaster of http://www.hobsonschoiceebooks.org/, offered his entire store (would cost me £100's to buy) for FREE! I told him the eBooks I would like as I had a lot of them already, and he promptly sent over the download links.

He's the first to start profiting from my work. I've collected his paypal e-mail address, added him to my account spreadsheet and he will receive 10% of every sale his eBooks make - not bad for doing nothing :)

You can do the same, just send an e-mail to auction.enterprise@googlemail.com and tell me the name of the eBook and you could start earning auto pilot income aswell.

I still have a lot to do before the launch, including loading all the listings up into turbo lister or another programme (for some reason turbo lister won't work for me - anyone have any alternative suggestions?), I also have to write sales letters for the items that haven't come with ready made sales letters, I have to do some more marketing of this challenge and try and get more people on board and finally, I have an extra special product that I will be creating over the next 365 odd days - so look out for that in the next 12 months :)

Welcome to the eBay Super Seller blog, working in conjunction with www.auction-enterprise.com. and eBay super seller auction-enterprise.

A few days ago, I decided to set myself a challenge. A challenge that will involve a considerable amount of hard work but the rewards will hopefully outweigh the hard work. It is something that I believe has never been done before and could revolutionize the eBay eBook market. I despise the 1c eBook sellers and maybe, just maybe, I can show them how to make a profit with eBooks without selling at the ridiculous price of 1c. I'll describe my challenge below and explain how you can help me.

The Challenge:

To become the highest value info seller on eBay.co.uk within 12 months and to accumulate sales of Â£25000 on eBay in 12 months selling only information products and to amass a feedback tally of 5000 within one year.

The Rules:

1) I am only permitted to sell digitally downloadable products and at a price of at least Â£0.99 each.

2) I must not use this eBay account for buying purposes to build my feedback

3) I must accumulate 5000 feedback points and by the end of the 12 months be a power seller and with a feedback rating of 98%.

However, there's no way I'll be able to do this on my own so require the help of all the readers of this blog.

You could either:

Buy something off of me :)

Contribute a product for me to sell. I have a fairly large collection of eBooks and software, but I'm always looking for more. If you've written an eBook or created some software then send it to me and I'll sell it. Firstly, I'll give you 10% of all sales revenue - not profit - but 10% of every sale I make. Secondly, if the product has your website address or affiliate links then there is huge potential for back end sales.

Consider this scenario: You write an eBook - now your work is done. You don't need to do any selling, I'll do it all for you and you'll still get a percentage of all sales and without the costs.

If I was to sell the eBook 30 times in a month then, based on a typical conversion rate, you would make around 3-4 affiliate sales or website sales per month. At the average selling price of $30-$40 you would generate a backend income of at least $100 on complete auto-pilot whilst I do ALL the work for you. Plus, you'll have 10% of the sales revenue from the product. If I sell it for Â£5 and 30 times a month then that would be an additional Â£15 per month, without you having to lift a finger.

If you have an eBook you would like to sell to me or give to me for me to sellthen send me an e-mail @ auction.enterprise@googlemail.com, telling me the name of the product and whether or not you are the author.

IMPORTANT: Do not send me a link to download the eBook or as an attachment in the first e-mail. Just tell me the name of the eBook and I will reply if I want it. This is so that I can't be accused of not paying their 10% comission if I have the same eBook in my collection and decide to sell it on eBay.

What I start with:

I start with a variety of eBooks and software ready to list on eBay - some authored by myself.

I have a fairly decent knowledge of eBay

I have 10 feedback to start with so that I can list Buy it Now items and have access to all the other features that new sellers are not entitled to.

I have another eBay account with close to 300 feedback which I can use for buying other items on eBay

Just to add, the challenge will begin on the 1st July 2006 and I will update this blog with any problems I come across, any brilliant money making ideas or tips I invent. I will also include screenshots of my monthly sales revenue just to prove any statements I make.
